    Description

Yeah - I did it. About a year or so ago I took off that hideous scar of a pick guard that IMO ruined the look of an otherwise simple yet beautiful guitar. I did it carefully with a hair dryer and the finish underneath remained pristine. I don’t know if the suntan mark will ever completely disappear, but everyday it gets a little better and I don’t have to look at that awful pick guard anymore. I guess you can always slap on another one if you find the current look unsettling.
I can’t remember when or where I bought this (probably eBay), but it’s been my main guitar for at least 10 years. According to the serial number, I think it was made in 2001, but you’ll need to do your own research (picture of serial number included). Yamaha SN’s are ridiculously complicated to decipher.
The only reason I’m selling this is to reduce my guitar inventory and the fact that I finally put a pickup in my Martin D-28. Based on price, this is the best acoustic guitar, pound for pound IMO. It has the best neck I’ve ever experienced, one I’ve tried to find elsewhere. My Martin is only very slightly easier to play and I’d feel guilty if the Martin just hung on the wall unplayed.
I first played a Yamaha guitar at McCabe’s in West LA in the 1990’s and it was one of the few acoustic guitars that really stayed with me. I think Yamaha’s are very underrated from both a sound and playability standpoint - if you don’t want to drop a couple grand on a Martin D-28, I think this is the next best thing.
The photos show a couple of minor dings, all of which occurred in my bedroom, a place it’s never left. Frets have some wear (see pics). Selling this guitar is gonna hurt a little bit, but I’m 65 and don’t really need more than a few guitars anymore (said nobody ever…)
If your looking for a Yamaha A3R, look no further. This one will check all the boxes and save you a big chunk of dough. Included is an exceptionally nice Yamaha case that it originally came in. Bid with confidence you won’t be disappointed.
