Description
Vintage 1940's 1950’s Gibson Brown Lifton or Geib Hardshell Hard Guitar CaseCase DOES NOT include the guitar pictured (1954 Gibson Southern Jumbo), this listing is for the empty Case only – Guitar is pictured to show what a nice fit this Case is
This Case is most likely from the Later 1940's and possibly into the very early 1950's
Most likely made by Geib or Lifton for Gibson - there is no Geib or Lifton brand name anywhere on the Case, though it does resemble the Cases manufactured by Geib or Lifton
To think... way back in those days, Hard Cases could cost approximately an additional 40% of what a guitar cost, that is why most guitars did not get Hardshell Cases
This type Case was made for and shared by many Gibson model guitars - Acoustic, Electric, and Archtop - for example: Gibson J-45, J-50, SJN Country-Western, J-160e, Southern Jumbo, L-48, and many ES models, for example: ES-175, ES-150, etc.. Basically, it is for most Gibson 16 1/4 inch Full Bodied models.
YES - all these different models used the SAME Case. Many people are led to believe there were different model Cases depending on whether Acoustic Flat-Top, Electric, or Archtop, but they all used the same model Case across the different (16 1/4” Bodied) guitar Models, and all the HARD Cases did have the Arched Top and Back (the reason for the Arches, was for structural reinforcement - not so much for the reason that Archtop Guitars have an Arched Top; and let us not forget that Gibson Acoustic Flat-Top guitars have slight Arches to their Top and Back)
Nice and Light Weight, yet very Sturdy
Please see all Interior Dimensions (below) to confirm this Case will be a proper fit for your guitar
No unusual odor inside or out
Structurally really good condition, good and strong
All Latches and Hinges work fine. No missing or damaged Hardware. The Gibson metal plate under the Handle has some wrinkles - like the corner must have gotten folded over and then was re-flattened - see photo's
Please look over all the pictures carefully and zoom in if necessary so you can thoroughly understand the condition of this Case. This Case is around 70+ years old so it is not going to be mint condition and perfect - it is a used item. Though probably in better shape than you will find most Vintage Guitar Cases to be in.
It is a good Case. This type of Case is VERY RARE and not at all easy to come by…

SHIPPING:
Shipping prices have gone through the roof - I cannot help the price of shipping LARGE boxes - It is what it is
For those who may not understand the cost of shipping, please understand that Shipping Weight on LARGE packages is not based on Actual Weight, but is based on Dimensional Weight
For more information on Dimensional Weight, just Google: Dimensional Weight: How It Works and How to Cut Costs
Dimensional Weight on this item (with Packaging) is: 59
FedEx shipping - I ONLY ship by FedEx, because their Packing Rate is the least expensive, and if there is an Insurance claim, they are the best to deal with
It requires a very large box: 51" x 20" x 8" (Guitar box provided by FedEx)
Packing by FedEx. . is their fee for this, and includes the cost(s) of the Box, packing materials, and Labor to pack - I think it is reasonable, and provides better for insurance purposes. The . fee is the Handling Fee.
