Description
This is a used sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This sample features two different patented barbs. First is a Hiram B. Scutt patent, dated June 18. 1878 and second is a John McNeill patent, dated January 15, 1878. This wire is called "Scutt's Arrow Plate & McNeills "H" Plate Combination Barbs on Two Lines". by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 48-F). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Both barbs are arrowhead shaped pieces of sheet metal. Scutt Barb has a Vee at bottom center; and a split at top center. McNeill barbs have flat spots with missing tongues of metal at both top and bottom of cuts. This sample is 18" in length and has three barbing plates. There are two Scutt barbs and one McNeill Barb. The McNeill barb is at one end of the sample. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered. Wire shows age wear, with light to moderate pitting, and some bending of barbs. Wire is in good used condition. There are no off odors. I have listed other wires, both as auction and fixed price listings. We will gladly combine multiple purchases for shipping, when paid on the same invoice ... using the buy it now option. First wire ships for .50; additional wires are fifty cents each extra.
