PIKES PEAK MINER LETTER CENTRAL CITY COLORADO 1865

Description

An original Letter from Charles B Slade at Central City, Dec 18. 1865  to his mining partner  Nathan Augustus Frey at Empire, sending him a mining deed, also intends to take another claim as the owners he names have not paid their taxes on it so he and Colonel William Candless have.  Central City, Colorado Gilpin County, Colorado is a historic mining settlement founded in 1859 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush and was called the "Richest Square Mile on Earth". Charles B Slade was a notable Colorado miner who later operated the Gold Hill Rough Ridge Mine in Boulder County.   Nathan Augustus Frey, a Union Army veteran was the son of noted Salem, Massachusetts mariner, the Frye Home is an historic Salem landmark.  Colonel William Candless was also a Colorado Mine Operator.
