    Description

This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a John W. Nadelhoffer patent, dated January 12, 1883.   This wire is called "Nadelhoffer's Two Point Cross Over Close Set Barbs - All Galvanized" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 462-B).  This wire features two twisted together round line wires.  Barbs are two pointed made by wrapping a single round barbing wire wrapped around one line, crossing over a twist in line wires, and then wrapping back around the same line wire.  Barbs are wrapped to one line only.  Line wires are all galvanized, barbs are closely spaced.  Wire sample shows very light pitting. There are six barbs.  Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered.   There is some bending of barbing points, but no broken, or missing barbing points.
