Mt Rainier bronze bookends from Ohanapecosh Hot Springs. Bucking Horses. This is one of my favorite items that combines the National Parks with the cowboy theme. The medallion at the base is engraved with Ohanapecosh Hot Springs, Wash. Since it doesn't mention the National Park, they may have been before the Ohanapecosh Hot Springs area was added to the Park in 1931. The Spring functioned as a tourist spot with a lodge, cabins, campground and bathhouse. Several ownership changes and deterioration took place, and finally in 1966 the Park Service was able to buy the resort and tear down all the buildings. .The bookends are 3 7/8 inches along the front, 2 1/2 inches deep and 4 7/8 inches high to the top of the cowboys head. They each weigh slightly over 2 pounds. Condition is very good. There is a stamp on the bottom PAT PEND, which I believe means patent pending.
