    Description

    This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a Purches Miles patent, dated October 8, 1878.   This wire is called "Miles' Big John Large 1-3/4" Staple Barb on One Line
    " by collectors. (ref Hagemeier No. 71-B)  This wire features a single heavy gauge round line wire. Barbs are two pointed made from a staple shaped barbing wire.  Barb is clinched around the line wire, with use of a patented hand tool.  Wire shows light pitting.  Sample is 18" in length and has two barbs.  Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered.  There are no bent or broken points.
