DESCRIPTION:
For your consideration is this “extremely rare,” Michael Hedges Edition, Martin Backpacker electrified guitar.  Not only is it an original signed rendition of this unique ambidextrous instrument, but also features a very-limited production, strap-plug-connected Transducer Pickup (factory mounted below the soundboard) for intimate “direct” amplification when desired.  The guitar projects light and clear tones with solid bass resonance, despite its compact size.  The neck and fret board feel is very easy and compliant with low action!  Even the intonation is spot on living up to  Martin’s  reputation for tonality and precision; after all, they’ve been producing some of the most beloved dreadnoughts in acoustic guitar history, since 1833!
Martin Guitar confirmed this Limited Edition guitar was made between 1992 and 1998 and that very few were electrified.  I am the second owner and acquired it from a friend of Michael Hedges in California who was gifted the instrument.  At that time she casually mentioned this very guitar was demonstrated by the master himself (can only imagine how magical that must have been)!  In the 20 or so years since then, it’s been stored in its soft-shell case and tuned periodically.  The condition is pristine with just the slightest scuffs on some of the frets.  There are no nicks, dents, scuffs, scratches or visible blemishes to the earthy-warm, mahogany and spruce wood satin finish.  The original strings were tarnished and replaced about 10 years ago with Martin Bronze, light-gauge strings, but everything else is original.  Please review the pictures which accurately showcase this magnificent guitar’s condition.
This instrument epitomizes a well-deserved tribute to the innovative (often deep, avant-garde) music Michael Hedges composed without conventional boundaries.  Although his life tragically ended back in 1997 (at just 43 years of age), his uniquely radical, finger-style techniques and compositional mastery has yet to be eclipsed, in my humble opinion.  This rare, signed copy will be sure to enhance your collection and make one remember Michael Hedges’ mastery of unconventional, theory-defying, alternative-tuning arrangements engaged via “moving” chord/ key progressions which really captured the message and feeling of the imagination from which they were created.
