RENO’S ONCE FAMOUS “DIVORCE DUDE RANCH”
STERLING SILVER DONNER TRAIL RANCH KEY FOB/KEYCHAIN.
Reno, NV: Newman’s Silver Shop, [c.1968]. Vintage sterling key fob. Round key fob (measuring 1.5 inches in diameter), with cut-out design “DTR” at the center, engraved on both sides [only the medallion is Sterling, the chain is not]. Obverse marked “STERLING,” with maker’s mark “Newman’s Silver Shop, Reno.” A lovely souvenir from this famous dude ranch. Good condition, with wear and tarnishing consistent with age. Please examine photographs to best assess condition.
Donner Trail Ranch was a famous “Dude Ranch” in Reno, NV. In addition to being named after the notorious Donner Party story (spoiler alert… yep, cannibalism), it was also affectionately known as “Divorce Ranch,” as it was a destination for the rich and famous to stay at while they were awaiting their “quickie” Reno divorces, to be followed up by a “quickie” wedding ceremony on the grounds. The Donner Trail Ranch has been lost to time, with almost all the buildings having been demolished by developers by 1994.
