Description
This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This wire features a Jacob Brotherton patent, dated September 3, 1878. This wire is called "Brotherton's Two Point Round Barb on Two of Three Light Gauge Lines" by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 755-BVARIATION
). (Hagemeier Number shows wire and barb configurations, but does not list different weights of line wires.). This wire features three twisted together round line wires. Line wires are about 13.5 gauge. Barbs are two pointed, wrapped around two of the three line wires. One point is inserted between the two lines, and remainder of barbing wire wrapped around two lines. The third line is twisted with the other two lines. Wire sample is 18" in length. It shows age and use wear with moderate to heavy pitting. There are three barbs, well spaced, but cut is not well centered. There is some bending of barbing points, but no broken or missing points. Wire is otherwise in fair to good used condition.
Two of the last photos show this wire in comparison to the Brotherton on Two of Three Heavy Gauge lines.
