Antique Leather Horse Tack Harness Back Pad Brass Terrets Silver Studs Relic . This piece I acquired from a local farm along with some other horse tack related pieces/parts. The old woman whom I got this from indicated that some of tack came from Oklahoma in the 1890's. I was skeptical, I usually am on stories like this, and from what my own research of the pieces I got that had brands and or date stamps ect the marked pieces are from the 1900s to the 1920s. I am not an old western horse tack leather expert so look carefully at the design and construction of the piece. The studs appear to be Sterling to me, there are spots on the non dirty corrosion soiling covered studs that have a nice luster/shine. I do not know for certain I did no testing for metal content and I am not positive if back in that time period if German Silver was used as much as it is today on horse tack decorations.
