MINTY FANCY ANTIQUE HAND EMBROIDERED MATCHING
.38 AUTO GUN RIG WITH MATCHING CARTRIDGE BELT AND
EARLY FRONT PIECE STYLE & DOUBLE CALIFORNIA CLIP BUCKLES
Fine Antique Western Americana matching gun rigs are very hard to find. This is especially true of South of the Border leather. Mexican leather had a horrible tanning process that did not preserve the leather very well; and would self destruct in almost no time. In fact, the Premier Mexican Artisans who made saddles used imported English leather. In addition, old Mexican leather items, especially fancy goods, were handed down from generation to generation and typically saw continuous heavy use until they literally fell apart. Gun rigs were usually repaired or matched with a different holster or belt; and continued being used.
This embroidery is created using fiber from the Agave cactus plant that is hand twisted into thread; and is the same cactus used to make Tequila. The intricately hand embroidered decoration is done one stitch at a time. Each time the needle is brought up from the back of the leather an individual stitch of the fine embroidery creates the 3 dimensional embroidered design. This unbelievably painstaking process adds to the incredible Artisanship of the hand created pitiado embroidered patterns on the matching holster and belt that are now a long lost art form; and must have taken weeks to create by hand, one stitch at a time. Modern rigs that appear similar with designs that appear to be hand embroidered are actually machine made. This rig has hand stitched embroidery that is very time consuming to create in pitiado artistry, with strong 3 dimensional visual eye appeal. Most South of the Border gun rigs are made for revolvers, which were traditional and heavily favored by Mexican Vaqueros. Automatic firearms had much more fire power, were mucho macho, and admired by all cowboys; but were prohibitively expensive for most. Thus, automatic gun rigs are quite scarce. This gun rig is from the Charro Revival period from the 1920s -1940s. Although wearing sidearms were outlawed at this time, firearms were still a necessary accoutrement on the frontier. And the cities, Charros who would ride horses with fancy saddles, silver headstalls, bits and horsehair reins, and wear elaborate costumes that included sombreros, embroidered jackets and pants, and always with a fancy gun rig and pistola, and carried them during parades or Charrerias` (Mexican Rodeos, the national sport of Mexico), and used their pistolas for firing off blank cartridges; much to the delight of the crowds.
This holster fits a medium frame, medium caliber .38 caliber automatic pistol. I do not have any automatics to determine which auto model fits this holster, so use the inside dimensions below. This holster is 8 1/2" tall bottom of skirt to the top of the holster x 5" wide outside dimensions across the back of the skirt. When I put a ruler inside the holster, it measures about 7 1/8" from the inside bottom to the top of the holster, and about 4 3/8" wide across inside dimension. The dimension from the top of the holster to the bottom of the curve cut out for the trigger guard is about 2". The design of the holster is closed toed at the bottom. The holster a fancy hand embroidered decoration displaying the popular flower and leaf motif with an embroidered border in the traditional 3 rows of embroidery in the Aztec pattern, with a stippled punch dot decorated background, en suite with the front belt piece. One side and the bottom of the holster has beautiful hand stitched tan leather lacing. The holster has a back flap that acts as a belt loop and skirt. There are 2 split rivets that secure the back of the holster to the skirt. The holster is lined with tan calf skin leather, en suite with the back of the belt. There is some minor scattered discoloration, mostly to the inside lining of the holster at the top and the top left edge that occurs naturally due to the absorption properties of the leather combined with the terrible South of the Borer leather tanning process used, and after decades of drying out, and leather conditioner is then applied; but certainly is not distracting overall to the minty condition. Most holsters don't have a skirt; but this has a wide skirt, hand embroidered in the 3 row traditional Aztec pattern, and matching in pattern and color, en suite with the holster belt. The original hammer strap is also hand embroidered in the traditional Aztec pattern with calf skin lining, matching in pattern and color, en suite with the holster and belt; and the snap works fine. The matching belt has a hand embroidered border at the bottom, and is lined with tan calf skin as is the holster.
The front piece is 13 1/2" long x 3 1/2" wide, calf skin lined, in the early double buckle style, and is completely hand embroidered with the same flower and leaf pattern and Aztec border with a stippled punch dot decorated background, en suite with the holster. The buckles are stamped sheet metal, probably nickel plated brass, and both buckles have the early California clipped style corners. There are 53 cartridge loops that fit a .38 caliber cartridge, and all the loops are intact. One loop has a minuscule nick to the bottom that had been fixed and barley noticeable unless you are looking for it. There is a thick piece of leather sewn onto the top of the belt above the cartridge loops to keep the cartridges secure on the belt when mounted on a horse; a feature found on high quality cartridge belts. The matching belt is 2 1/4" wide x about 43" overall as shown, end to end. When the center front piece is attached to the buckle in the center hole, this rig measures about 40" from where the tongue on one end rests on the outside frame of the buckle to the center hole of the embroidered front piece 3 holed end that is not in a buckle. There is one small spot of discoloration on the belt, but is hidden when the holster is adjusted over it and hides it completely. The metal holes are about 3/4" center to center, so you could expand or decrease the belt from about 1 1/2" larger or smaller.
Most South of the Border hombres liked fancy goods, and it is very difficult to find any Antique South of the Border matching gun rig in fine condition. The hand stitched pitiado embroidery embellishment on the holster, belt is in remarkably minty intact condition. This set was custom made for a well to do Charro would be able to afford a fancy embroidered gun rig like this. Almost all Mexican rigs are unmarked, as is this one. This is a handsome, fancy hand pitiado embroidered matching gun rig from South of the Border, down Mexico way; in a hard to find automatic pistol pattern, in minty condition overall. This holster rig has a beautiful medium tan colored leather, is supple, and with very light wear. This would be perfect for any Western, Old West, Western Americana, South of the Border, Wild West, Parade, Re-enactment, Charro, Charrita, Vaquero, Cowboy, Cowgirl, Buckaroo, Holster, Holster rig, automatic pistol or Folk Art collection. Or, use as a decorator / wall hanger in an office, den or Man Cave, hang on a saddle horn, use as costume or conversation piece; and could still be worn today.

SELLER'S RETURN POLICY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EBay customers are protected when they are an eligible buyer, complete a purchase of an eligible item on a eBay's website, and purchase the item on eBay by using the "Pay Now" option, third-party checkout or an eBay invoice in one lump payment with a PayPal approved financial business. Buyers must keep their PayPal account in good standing. Buyers must show good faith conduct with the seller. Improper good faith conduct can include, but is not limited to, any means by which a buyer can attempt to unjustly benefit from the Seller's Terms & conditions or eBay's Buyer Protection plan. Moreover, good faith conduct does not include buyer's remorse, regardless of the reason. Returns will not be accepted such as changed my mind, Found a better price, Just didn't like it, Ordered by mistake, Arrived too late, etc.. Returns will not be accepted and buyers will be reported to eBay when buyer makes false claims such as doesn't match description or photos, doesn't seem authentic, Doesn't fit, Wrong item sent, Missing parts or pieces, Doesn't work or defective, Arrived damaged. If you wish to take advantage of any of the issue resolution options available from the seller, you must have the business courtesy to discuss any potential issue within 3 days of receipt, and gain agreement with the seller prior to requesting a return through eBay, leaving feedback or initiating any online dispute process. By doing so, buyers commit to negotiate in good faith, and that they have not initiated any other form of resolution processing; including eBay / PayPal dispute process or credit card charge backs, or purchases where you have been or may be compensated by a third party. Possible buyer / seller resolution examples are: if seller and buyer agree that an item is significantly different than described and photographed, exchanging an item for a different item from the seller (whether listed or unlisted), credit from the seller against any current or future item, adjustment, trade, return, or any other arrangement that is mutually agreed upon between the seller and the buyer, and confirmed in writing via eBay's email system. These options are designed to expedite resolution of any potential issue quickly, easily and amicably, in lieu of eBay / PayPal on-line dispute resolution process which is lengthy, laborious, and allows decisions to be made by a 3rd party instead of the principals; i.e., the buyer & seller. Due to a myriad of International and U.S. Federal, State, Territory, County, City or Local law(s), ordinance(s), restrictions(s) or regulation(s), some articles shipped via U.S.P.S. may have restrictions and / or regulations that may apply to your article(s) shipped to a U.S. address. Buyer must use appropriate shipping, delivery confirmation and / or signature confirmation (items 0 ) and/or insurance at the buyers expense.
