    Description

Here's a 1983 Guild D-17 CH-SB from a local estate that's ready to play just as it is and needs no repairs. Serial number is AL-100035, 1983 is ink stamped on the underside of the top near the soundhole. The body is all mahogany, which was given a rich cherry stain (the CH in the model code) with a dark sunburst around the edges (SB). Neck is mahogany, fingerboard and bridge are rosewood. The inside of the back, near the label, is stamped "second". This was because of the checks in the mahogany veneer on the arched back and it's a visual issue, not a structural one since the back is laminated. After 40 years it certainly isn't going to get any worse!
Finish is original throughout, with the original pickguard and bridge. Tuners have been changed to Grover Rotomatics, bridge pins were upgraded to rosewood with pearl dots. The truss rod in the neck works fine, neck is quite straight and string action is what is often referred to as "factory standard" for acoustics, 3/32" on the low E and 2/32" on the high E (measured from bottom of string to top of 12th fret). String scale is 25.5", neck is 1 5/8" wide at the nut. Note pick scratches to the top above the low E string, but these are shallow and don't go through the finish, ditto the pick scratches below the pickguard. There's a slight line down the center of the top that looks like it might be a hairline crack but it's not, it's where the lacquer has sunk into the center seam glue joint between the two halves of the book-matched mahogany top. The original frets have only minor wear. Comes in a sturdy hardshell case that fits well.
We ship on the Wednesday following the end of the Sunday auctions.
