Description
The American Frontier was a multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual complex. This note on stationary of the Post Office Pawnee City, Pawnee Co. Nebr. dated Feb 11, 1885 is apparently written in German (?) "spitz" "ni" "uber" "marl" "foffen" "fimilan" Also has numbers and "Excima" and "measeals" No name visible. Better contrast for faded communications are given. Postmaster John Franklin Stiegemeir (1835-1926) was born in Missouri the son of German parents. He first made wagons and carriages and them became a merchant, finally becoming postmaster of Marthaville, MO 1866-1874. Moving to Pawnee he became postmaster there serving from 1882-1885. He then became a bank cashier. Lissie F. Stiegemeier (1865-1949) was not his wife but rather his 20 year old daughter. Mysterious item from the multi-ethnic frontier. Sent flat
